Program Function Key with Block of Text

Note: Using Outlook 2000

Is it possible to program a function key with a particular block of text so that while in Outlook you can simply hit an F# key and the body of the email will populate with the pre-programmed text?

Looks like there are a few 3rd party apps that may do it but I'm hoping there's a way within Outlook itself...

Thanks for any tips / advice!

What I do is prepare several standard e-mails and leave them as draft versions. Copy when I want to really send it out. Keep the 'To' box empty, which stops it being sent accidentally.

Outlook also lets you create extra folders and you can store them there.

Madawc -

Thanks for taking time to post. Yup, that's EXACTLY what I have the user doing now. She has the standard text saved as emails in her Drafts folder & she just copies & pastes as needed. Was just hoping to uncover a way to make the process even smoother for her and I thought programming an unused F# key would be the way to go.

Another suggestion I received was to use Word as the email editor and set up AutoText. Unfortunately, going that route eliminates the Outlook signature that is set to appear on ALL of our outgoing emails. So while AutoText may 'solve' problem it then creates another.

Forgot, I thought of one other workaround: Set up a SECOND email signature. By default, the company signature is attached to ALL outgoing emails with your name, addy, disclaimer, etc. When the user wants to add the block of text, they could go to Insert, Signature, <NameOfSig>.

I think I'm more curious at this point as to why finding a way to program a function key is so elusive...! I thought it would be an easy thing to do!

Add a toolbar button that runs a macro to insert the text...

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.

You can copy the entire e-mail, as well as copying and pasting text.

xlbo - "Add a toolbar button that runs a macro to insert the text" Ahhhhh... I never thought of doing something like that (obviously). We happen to have a developer on staff. I'm going to run it by her to see if it's something she can whip up. Thanks for the great idea!
