I'm fairly sure it was here that I read about ethernet to serial converters and someone suggested the digi one sp (about $150 - $180). So I could be on premesis and program over their network or do it remotely as long as I could get access.

A client has a cics 6.1 system that was originally set up over the phone. Now the system is fed by voip and doesn't like to connect to a modem...so I want to try the above ethernet solution. What else do I need? I see a rj connector on the front of the system that looks like it's for data. Does the serial cable connect to that? Where do I get that cable? Or do I need to add some serial rad to program it with a serial cable?

thank you!

Hi Ace

to be honest, I'm not sure what I mean. I'm an IT guy that also handles some phone systems in our organization. The CICS is about 2 years old. As it came, I could dial into it (pots) in the past and get it to answer and program it on a laptop using a modem. Does that answer your question?

Digi converter works great. One end to LAN the other end to an external Rad. Run the digi one software and program the converter and set up a virtual serial port on the PC. Very easy to set up. If you are trying to access the RAD through a firewall then you are going to need to do some port forwarding. Thats it!
