I've installed proftpd on Redhat (downloaded latest this week).
* created the appropriate proftpd.conf file in the /usr/local/etc dir.
* then created the proftpd file in the /etc/xinetd.d dir in order to start proftpd with xinetd
* disable is set to "no" in the file above
* I restarted xinetd several times
I can connect to the proftpd server from the machine it is installed on, yet I cannot seem to connect from a remote machine. I always get the "connection refused" response. So some security setting is actively blocking access.
* then I checked the hosts.allow in /etc and added the ALL : ALL : ALLOW. But still I get the same problem. I am completely clueless after seeing 20 tutorials on installing and configuring proftpd with xinetd all, with slight little annoying differences.
SOME EXTRA INFO
* I cannot see any message in the /var/log/messages related to "connection refused".
* when I chkconfig, I can't see any proftpd-related lines.
What's going on? Your help much appreciated!
Thanx
