I'm running ProFTPD and trying to find something Linux based that could monitor my customers directories for new files, changes, etc and send notification of when they occur. The notification will be sent to an AS400 which will then pull in and process the file. Right now the AS400 is set to look for changes every ten minutes which really isn't ideal. I'd like something more event driven. I would want to be able to define multiple directories and email addresses specific to those directories.

I haven't had much luck in searching. I found a program called "filewatch" but it doesn't look like it handles multiple email addresses.

Anyone know of any other possible program or an interested programmer?

There is a program that comes with gnome, /usr/bin/fam, that monitors the filesystem for changes and notifies things like nautilus whenever something changes on disk. I've never used it, but it may help you out.

Otherwise, you might want to monitor the xfer log and act on messages there.
