Im trying to create a mandatory roaming profile that I intend to point several users to. NT4 domain with NT4 workstations.

I created a newuser and tweaked that user ending up with a profile stored on my domain controller \profiles$\newuser\ntuser.man

this user works exactly like i want, but when i assigned that profile to another user, about half the desktop applications stopped responding. I got various errors from the applications. Some desktop shortcuts just dont respond. All the shortcuts have security set to all domain users read and execute... it appears that some programs cant see their keys in the registry etc...

any suggestions about what might be happening would be appreciated...

It could be that the URL is pointing to a single location, and that, although you have set the permissions to all domain users, maybe the owner is the original user.

You may need to add a policy setting to disable URLs in shortcuts, or maybe simply change the URL in the shortcut from %servername% to the more generic %driveletter% (ie, instead of \\Myserver\myapp\myapp.exe change it to c:\myapp\myapp.exe

Try running Filemon when you test this next - it should give you an inside glimpse of what is happening. Get Filemon here:
Good Luck :)
