Can anybody give me further advice on what precisely to do when in the some of the users profile directory on my profile server I get
Ntuser.DAT.LOG
Ntuser.DAT
Ntuser.DAT.LOG.TMP
Ntuser.DAT.TMP
Ntuser.DAT.LOG.TMP.TMP
Ntuser.DAT.TMP.TMP
Ntuser.DAT.LOG.TMP.TMP.TMP
Ntuser.DAT.TMP.TMP.TMP
and so on. Some users have 10 or more .TMP.

The server that saves and gives profiles isnt very powerfull and also is a BDC, Print Server and File Server. I know that moving policies off to another Server will probably solve the problem but does anybody know why the .TMP are being created. Any info will be welcomed. The server in question is NT4, SP4.

One possiblity is that you have users who are not logging off correctly before shutting down their machines.

When a user makes a change to their profile, the new profile is named ntuser.dat.tmp. All changes for a particular session are stored in this, and it is renamed to ntuser.dat upon logoff. If users are simply powering down or hitting reset, etc. these files would be left behind since the offline and online profiles would not be getting synced properly. Check the dates on all these files and see if you can spot any patterns (lunch time, end of day, etc.)
