hi

im new to the forum so please be patient.
i work in a school where server 2003 is used as the dc. there are roughly 200 workstations all running windows xp pro. recenetly we have found that on both brand new computers and old computers is that when the workstations have had winxp installed on them and have been put back on the domain, we are finding that 1 in 10 computers is not loading up the correct profile. the same installation procedure is used everytime yet this anomaly is still occurring here and there. can someone please tell me if they have any solutions to this problem?

How do you mean the profle is not loading, do you mean if a user logs on to two different PC's they see a different desktop?

Do you use roaming profiles?

Roaming profile, mandatory profile?

Are you defining the profile in the domain user properties? Do you have a GPO set?

Is this happening to particular users, or anyone that happens to log into those computers? These computers were in the domain at one point, then you took them out then put them back on the domain? Could be a computer account issue. make sure the computer accounts are fine. Try removing the computer accounts, then rejoining the pcs again.

Have users log into a known good pc, then onto the problematic pc, and vice versa, have a user doesnt get their profile loaded, then have them log into a known good pc.

hi,

i am using roaming profiles, and the problem is specific to just one computer. if a user goes to any other computer they have no problems at all, its just this one in perticular which does not want to know. 99% of 300 computers are fine but there are the odd ones which have this strange anamoly. any ideas much appreciated

The users local profile could be corrupt and causing the roaming one not to apply, check to see if there is a profile in Documents & Settings if there is delete it and try again.
