Hi all,

I'm having real problems with the profile on our server. Everytime I set up my desktop, home page, and all the other trimmings, I reboot and it's corrupted and I have to start all over again. I have followed MS's advice and deleted the entries in the registry but the same problem just keeps happening.

If anyone has any experience with this problem I would really appreciate some pointers.

Hi

Regarding your problem, Is this for a single user or for all users?
Have you completly deleted the user account and recreated it from scratch or just the profile settings and directories?

Hindle

Hi Hindle,

It's just for the Administrator and yes, I deleted all of the corrupted profile by logging in as another user within the Domain Admin Group. I can't delete the user though!

If you're using a roaming profile make sure you delete it wherever the central copy is. Marc Creviere

Thanks for the reply. There is only 1 server (Win2k Adv) and 1 Win2KPro workstation (test network). The central copy is in the Documents and Settings folder. Another thought I had today was to redirect the Profile to a seperate partition where the workstation picks up it's roaming profile from by altering the profile in the Administrator account.

What d'you think? Good idea?

Well, if you've got a roaming profile, and you're just deleting it on the machine it's having problems on, it just copies the problem profile back to the system when you log on again. I'd suggest deleting it from wherever you're keeping your roaming profiles, and also from the workstation. Make sure you're not logged in as Administrator on either box when you do this, because when you log off, it will save the same problem profile to the network again. Marc Creviere

Sorry, I haven't explained it well enough. I have 1 Server (Win2K Adv) and 1 Win2K Workstation. The Administrator profile is consistantly corrupt everytime I log onto the server. I'm not using the workstation for anything at the moment. I log onto the server as a different user within the domain admin group, delete the Administrator profile and remove the registry entries (as MS suggests on Knowledge Base) to try and fix the problem but to no avail. Everytime I log on the newly created profile that I have just set up becomes corrupted and I am logged on with a temp one which I am informed will not be updated when I log off.
I'm getting really bored of having to reset my homepage, desktop, etc. so I would really appreciate any help you or anyone else can offer.

Thanks.

After days of trying various things, I finally figured it out. I installed the drivers for my Explorer mouse about a week ago. This turned out to be what was corrupting the profiles. Don't ask me how as I'm not too sure myself but by removing the drivers and just using the mouse with the standard driver everything is fine. A bit concerning when the drivers are written by Microsoft, the mouse is made by Microsoft, and the OS it is installed on is designed by Microsoft yet it magaes to totally stuff up my profiles.
Nevermind, another lesson learnt.

Thanks for all the help though.
