Product of two columns from different or same table?

Can any one guide me the whole way that
how to take the product of two columns and store it into
a new column (either by system or manuall)

i'll appreciate if it can be done through sql statements.
or pls write the whole code for trigger or pl/sql.
i'm using oracle 8 with developer 2000
