Does anyone have any thoughts on how useful HP's AIS and ASE certification is? I see very few results when searching job sites, but 1000's if you search for anything cisco or CCNA. Do you guys think its worth it, or stick with CCNA instead?

Thanks,

Really depends on your career path. If your in a job where your equipment is HP product, then I would look at least into the AIS. If you are going to work for a reseller, the ASE is a definite plus for a reseller that does a good HP business. I would not stay away from the Cisco by any means since that's the "popular", most published route, and everyone looks at Cisco as the "standard" (funny since they do have a lot of non-standards based protocols, go figure) but you make yourself well-rounded and even highlight yourself by having the HP certification(s) as someone going outside the "norm" since you will run into a lot of peers with some sort of Cisco cert but next to non with HP certification.

My opinion is that HP actually makes better switches as a whole, couple that with there standard lifetime NBD warranty (not some "product lifetime" like Cisco will state of between 7-9 years, but as long as you own the product warranty) and your total cost of ownership for that product is amazingly cost effective. I know HP has come on strong here the past year or two and think that in another 2-3 years, they will seriously give Cisco a run for their money.

Thanks for the info, I am a unix system and network administrator with a preference away from anything Cisco, so I am wondering how AIS and CCNA would compare when looking for employment. It seems like Cisco might be the clear winner here? too bad Cisco sucks.

From the "marketized" industry, everyone will be definitely looking for the Cisco certification for that foot in the door. But if you know the company you are interested in working for uses heavily or sell heavily HP, then you have that added prestige and selling feature of yourself.
