I have a small network (~40 devices) running on HP 4000M. The network spans 4 floors with the swtch being on the second. We are consolidating and moving the last 5 workstations on floor 3 to floor 1 next to our main server room. Rather than running 5 additional cables from the switch to the new location, I would like to insert a new 8-port switch on the backside of our proxy server which is our current internet connection and is dual homed with one of the network cards going straight to the 4000M. My thought was to connect the proxy server to the new switch, and connect the switches together. From my readings I get the impression that the 4000M does not have an uplink port. Also from my readings it sounds like I can convert the existing run from the proxy to the switch to a crossover and plug the two switches together using any port.

Will this work and are there any pitfalls? Not really worried about speed as there isn't a lot of network traffic. Just looking for a cost effective doable solution.

Thanks in advance.
