Procurve 1.5 software

I am evaluating this software and the server side is doing good, but when I try to do anything on a client the "preference" is grayed out? I made sure the access.txt is correct and also the riptide.cfg. They are not multi-homed. I've looked everywhere for more troubleshoot areas and can't find any. Can someone help?
