I have been running Procomm 4.8 for a few months now, I have WinXP Pro. When I first updated to XP, the modem in the machine conflicted with Procomm, but that's since been fixed and I haven't had any issues at all. Thursday the 13th I was here and sent and received Authorization/Deposit files using Kermit in Procomm, no problems. Gone Friday and someone else had used my machine. Now, when I send and receive, Procomm times out and gives me bad CRC file errors and makes corrections to the file. The problem is, it stops responding and I have to close out using task manager. I tried to restore XP to the day before I left, the restore was easy but it didn't correct the Procomm problem. I was trying another machine when I couldn't finnish my transaction on my computer, the other machine was working. Now, today, it got the same error. I haven't had any virus alerts, but it's interesting that Procomm is installed on two different machines which are networked together, but each program works for it's own pc.

What IS a bad CRC error?? Paymentech has no idea, and I haven't called Procomm yet because they charge for tech support. I am going to reinstall the program and hope that it works.

Just FYI, reinstalling Procomm seems to have worked (so far today). I would still like to know what "bad CRC" means though. :)

Thanky!!

Most file transfer protocols will do some sort of calculation on data it sends or receives and includes that calculated value with each transmitted packet. CRC stands for cyclic redundancy calculation (I think, don't hold me to it). When using Zmodem and a couple other protocols, if the received data's CRC does not match the sender's CRC value, then Procomm will request that packet be retransmitted and display the error message. Some things that can cause CRC errors include bad connections (line noise, etc.) and receiving data faster than the modem or com port can handle it.

That makes a lot of sense and sheds light on my problem. Thank you so much for your time!
