I will like someone to enlighten me.I will wish to know why intel change from the socket base processor to the slot base processor and later back to the socket base.Indicate what package type are the slot base processor.

I may be wrong but i will guess. Part of it has to do with competition. While intel was still using the socket 7 type board, a few competitors could also use the same board. Intel then went with slot 1 style. No more competition on the same mother boards. However the slot 1 was limited in the speed of which it could go to. Intel tehn decided to go to the socketed 370. this style could allow for faster speeds. If you notice the P4 is also a socket processor. I think future Processors will also be the same. this is just my opinion and I could be wrong. James Collins
