I recently posted about having an open slot in a carrier well I have found a different issue that I hope someone can enlighten me.

I swapped out a the processor in this system R2.0 V9.0 with a processor of the same release and version and it wouldn't accept the backed up program off the translation card. When you went to restore it always says restore complete yet the system is always in Key mode and defaulted...no matter which backup file on the Trans card I used. I was under the assumption that as long as the backup was done on a R2.0 processor it could be loaded back on to a 2.0 with out doing conversion type backups and restores. Thoughts???

Remove the processor and check the position of the two dip switches at the top of the connector. My guess is they are in permanent key mode position - you need to flip them up (away from the green board) - then retry your restore. Also, the modules need to be in exactly the same places as when you did the original backup. If you have moved boards around - or did any swapping of spots after your last back-up - the restore will not take.

Thank you Tom...I swear I didn't know about the dip switches...I don't beleive I have ever heard of them...or I had forgotten. I will give it a go and let you know!

Thanks again

Bill

The deal with those switches is this:

The phone company in some parts of the country charged extra if your system can be pooled.

SO, way back in the old days there was a requirement to make it to where the system could NOT be SOFTWARE chenged to allow pooling.

Thus, the switches on the MAGIX processor. Back in Merlin II & Legend days, there was a JUMPER BLOCK to deal with.

I have found that sometimes I need to default the processor, put it in the same mode as the translation I'm going to restore from, and even set the same default numbering and operator assignments before being sucessful.
