I just began building my first computer. I installed everything and tried the first boot. I get a screen saying AMD proccessor Hammer Family - unidentified
and memory OK.

I tried to hit DEL but it wont go to the setup. While installing the processor i bent about 5 pins very slightly. i am guessing this is the problem but I was hopeing someone out there could recommend something for me to do.

Did you get the pins straightened out? They are very delecate so proceed with caution.

If not straight and you have this installed and clamped as it should be with the heat sink/fan installed, they might be bent to an extreme now.

As you probably do not have a pin straightener... I would seek the assistance of a local shop to square this up before there is damage that can not be repaired.

If after you straightened the pins it "dropped" into the socket easily? then there shouldn't be a problem, if you had to push to make it seat? then one or more pins may not have actually gone into the socket (unlikely though)

The model stepping has been changed several times each time the manufacturer includes extra instructions into a new bios release.
It is possible your motherboard needs a newer bios for the CPU to be recognised properly.
However, this normally doesn't prevent POST or OS install.

Yea, the processor dropped in perfectly after I straightened the pins. ((Nails, one reason I'm happy to be a woman.)) So, my best explaination is my motherboard is behind and my CPU is mostly ok. -_-; I was worried about that...Blah! Thanks for you help.

Arhh! Sempron with E6 stepping, the Hammer was CG I believe and much earlier.
This Version 1.0 755 ECS board was a fairly early adopter of the socket 754 platform so in it's basic early form does need the extra bios instructions for later CPU types.
E6 is much newer and possibly needs a bios flash.
But: on first boot check your bios number, check against currently available bios versions.

Do I burn it to a CD or what? How do I get flash memory on a computer that I can't even get to the set up screen on. And now, its trying to be cute and won't turn on sometimes and it'll just beep. If I did mess up my processor would that effect my computer turning on?
