I have any easy question probably for most of you all. I'm buying a new custom built computer with this CPU:

(754-pin) AMD ATHLON(TM)64 2800+ CPU w/ Hyper Transport Technology

The memory that is coming with it is:

512 MB PC3200 400MHz DDR MEMORY (Corsair Value RAM)

Since my memory is PC3200 and my processor is 2800, does that mean my memory will not be working at full potential?

This is the motherboard coming with my computer. Is it a good one?

(754-pin Socket) eVGA nForce3 250 Chipset SATA RAID AGP8X
w/GbLAN,USB2,&5.1Audio

Thanks and have a good day,

The problem with Socket 754 motherboards is that they are already obsolete. Normally, I don't say that about yesterday's technology, but in this case, the 754 board had the following problems:

- HyperTransport only runs at 800MHz (not the full 1GHz that it was meant for)
- 754 boards don't have Dual-Channel DDR support
- No room to upgrade (AMD only released a few speeds for the 754 in a small range)
- No support for the newer X2 dual-cpu's, which is nice 2-3 years down the road when you're ready to upgrade

Socket 939 boards and CPU's are the way to go.

Now to answer your question...The memory rating (PC3200) and the CPU rating (2800) stand for two completely different things. They don't have to be equal. This setup is fine for a 754 CPU.
