Processes <defunct> and [ ]

Hi, any one.

I have AIX 432, and when i kill a process with &quot;-9&quot;, sometimes that processes, they became &quot;<defunt>&quot; or &quot;[ ]&quot;.

And then the only way is to do a shutdown.

Why it happens, and there is any way to this don't happen?

If a child process dies without notifying its parent, then that process becomes defunct. You can't kill a defunct. This process will go away only when the parent process dies.
