I just received an mail from Symantec about free upgrade to SAV10.01.

Heard a lot issues coming along with 10.01, and I think perhaps before most bugs are tested and repaired, I would stay with 9.0.

However, in Symantec's mail, it says that the service life of SAV9.0 will end on Sep 30th 2007. So eventually I will need to upgrade to SAV10.01.

Now, questions are...
1) Do I need to upgrade both server and clients or just server only?
2) After upgrade, I need to allocate new license file perhaps?
3) According to some people, some 9.0 clients are not shown on Server's SSC console... In this case, I just need to update the GRC file?

Thanks... I am still Symantec product newbie... your help is very appreciated =)

I would upgrade both the client and the server. It worked for me on all but 2 servers, and the Symevent fix will patch up the servers no problem.

You'll have to install a new license file I believe, at least you will for the Mail Security piece if you have that installed.

I can see my 9.0 clients on my SSC console, I am in the process of manually updating them from the VPHOME directory of the server. For some reason when I try to push it out to those 6 clients I can't see them.

Here's the symevent fix:

1. First upgrade the Symantec System Center
2. Then upgrade the server from 9 to 10
3. Install the latest symevent
4. Proceed to the Symantec System Center and head for All Tasks, Symantec Antivirus, Server Tuning options and ensure that you support legacy clients (8.x and 9.x) unless you are going to immediately upgrade your clients to 10 as well.
5. Upgrade your clients...

And yes. End of Life (EOL) is also a concern. Companies like Symantec will stop supporting their product at set times. 2007 is still a whiles to go though... they will have released Symantec Antivirus 11 and probably 12 by then.

License file? Captain... I think ABAMOTO is referring to the Small Business Edition of Symantec Antivirus. It ships with a licensing piece and requires updating as well.
If you need a license, you simply need to contact license@symantec.com and get it... If you're entitled, they should email you instructions on how to get it.
