I have a a HP Pavilion which came with a built in CDwriter drive and windows XP. It has the recordnow software and whenever I try to burn a cd it does the first 98% in the time and then spends about another 20-30 minutes on the last 2%. Sometimes if the cd is being burnt from mp3s from my hard drive it leaves odd bits off the track or the whole track out and just leaves silence.

Any ideas what is going on?

yes i have but still no joy with it.

What burning software are you using? I switched from easy cd creator to nero for the same reason and it solved the problem.

Make sure that xp's built-in burning software is turned off. I is a subset of Roxio's software and could be causing some confilct. Right click on the driver letter of your burner and select the recording tab. Uncheck 'enable cd recording on this drive'

This computer sounds fairly new. Call and complain to HP!! I'm not familiar with "RecordNow" software, but there might be some kind of software conflict that you're not aware of.

I had a problem with Roxio CD creator after downloading SP1.
Roxio put up a fix on their site,it seems to be a fairly common problem........the fix has worked for me.

You don't say what software you're using, but try the manufacturers site.

Here's a link to the roxio help
