We're experiencing some very odd behavior with Microsoft Word 2000.

We are heavy users of autotext and document templates.

When we open a template the use clicks in certain places and either pastes information in or uses autotext entries to fill in the text.

What happens is that fonts and characteristics of those fonts change. For example, a paragraph of autotext may have been saved as Book Antiqua 14pt. but the last two lines might come out Times New Roman.

It's driving us crazy. Any ideas?

turn on show formating and check the last two lines paragraph styles. sometime when insert is used and a user has a different default font that will cause this problem.

just delete the last two paragraphs formats if they are the culprit and that should do it.

The fact that it uses TNR may be significant. TNR is the default font in Word. If Word gets into a situation where it doesn't know which font to use, it will default to TNR. My guess is that there is a style conflict here. Maybe the AutoText is in Book Antiqua, but the style at the insertion point is conflicting, so Word switches to TNR.

Managed to try something out with it.

Had another person use the machine under the other persons logon.

She was able to crank out close to 50 certifications without issue. The key difference was this:

She batches her work, so for instance all of type a is grouped, b, etc.

Instead of constantly cut/pasting autotext she's just changing a date or a single word in the paragraph.

Doing that solves the issue. So I'm to believe there is something about copy/pasting that is causing the issue.

Yep. It is a conflict in styles i.e. the style of the source differs from that of the destination. If you include an end of paragraph mark in your selection and paste it into a paragraph formatted with a differing style, Word gets confused and defaults to its coded default (TNR).

In Word XP onwards, you can choose which behaviour is the default or when you paste, Word prompts you to choose source or destination formatting.
