Problems with Windows Update?

Has anybody experienced problem with Windows Update and Server 2008? I am seeing cases where I build a new server and during the Windows Update process it seems to "hang" when installing an update (the particular update seems to vary). Need to close the window, but when I go back in, I see several failed updates (as expected). I can't seem to remove then reinstall all of the updates. It seems that the inistial problem corrupted something.

Also, when this happens, I can no longer open the Roles and Features on the Server Manager page. Again, the failed install appears to corrupt something.
