Dear video specialists

I have just bought a Sharp XV-C20E Video projector for use with my PC (Intel P4 2.0GHz with 512MB RAM and ATI Radeon 7000 Video card). The puprose of the projector is for DVD, TV (hauppagge TV card) and winamp 3.0 visuals.

The projector is purely video and not a multimedia projector. It is old and operates effectively in 640x480. We plugged it in for the first time last night and noted that when operating in PAL then the image strobed somewhat, which is a tad annoying but bearable. If run in SECAM (which is not the UK standard) then the image is static and unstrobing.

Through trial and error we got the outputs to work properly with the projector (PAL mode) with a small amount of flickering. The test was Attack of the Clones hich has a large amount of red in it. The picture quality was good, apart from red banding which was very noticeable. So I decided (as all good engineers do) to fiddle - and because it was late I neglected to note what I fiddled with. I was playing about with the Radeon 7000 multi monitor display settings and Adaptor refresh rates and believe I have done something that Windows will not let me undo (unsurprisingly).

I now can see my desktop on the projector, but when I run the TV application or DVD I get a blank image. I have reset the PC several times to re-sync the card and projector but this does nothing. At 2:00 this morning I admitted defeat and am now turning to the expertise of tek-tips. Is there a way to optimise everything too and remove the strobing by using a higher monitor refresh rate?

I feel that if I could reset Display Properties, then this might help. I would really like to understand more about this, so that its not so hit and miss in the future and I might be able to add value to other projects like this.

I know I am a dozy excuse for an engineer, but help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance

If the 7000 is anything like my 9100 software then it appears you need to change the overlay settings.

Open display properties and click advanced then overlay tab.
If you have the output connected you should be allowed into further options. You need to select Theater Mode. Oh and you may also need to select clone mode on the display tab.

You'll find that this won't work with winamp avs tho no matter what you try. To view full screen on second monitor you need to set it as desktop background then set monitor to secondary display and tv out to primary, then hide taskbar and move/hide all icons to other display. Not a very satisfactory solution unfortunately and one that prob won't ever be fixed now the original designer of AVS has left. Unless ATI can fix it from their end.
