I am using Arcserve 2000 SP4. After installing Terminal Services and Service Pack 3 I was not able to start Arcserve. It prompted for the installation media but when I put it into CDROM drive arcserve told me it was not the correct msi file. (I am sure it is!)
I removed Terminal Services but the problem still existed. I contacted CA E-Mail support and they told me how to manually remove Arcserve. So I deleted all program files and all HKLM\Software registry entries. Also used the regcleaner supposed from CA. Now I tried to install Arcserve again but I got the message that the product is already installed. Another e-mail to CA. Uninstall the eventlogwatch and delete the file for C:\winnt. I also did that. But it did not work.
CA support now suggested to use phone support (95$ per call)
I am not willing to pay this.

Has anyone a suggestion how I can install my arcserve again?

HI,

Check if you have the Computer Associates Key under HKLM.
If you dont have any other CA products on that server..
Delete this key..

under Classes Root..

Go to installer\Products
delete the key corresponding to ARCserve...

cheers
