I am trying to do a clean reinstall of Windows XP pro on a system with 2 striped drives because of a nasty virus and the user's wish to clean house. Each time Windows when I am asked if I want to load Windows from the XP installation, I get the message that it cannot find the HD. I've unplugged each 300G SATA drive and tried again. The striped drives show up as a 100G C: drive and a 500G D: drive. I have formatted the D: drive and switched the drives. I am not experienced with striped drives and feel like I am poking around in the dark. Windows does not give me the option to return them change the C: drive to a non-dynamic/simple drive. Would Partition Magic offer some options?

Thanks in advance.

A little knowledge is dangerous.

What is a striped drive?

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

You probably need to install the 3rd party raid drivers (either motherboard or add-on card) during the installation.

Generally when some says 'striped' they are referring to Raid 0 (or some variation of raid that includes a raid 0 level)

Exactly. And this IS a RAID 0 driveset, as the total is 600GB. Steps:

1. Create RAID 0 array in RAID BIOS (sounds like this is already done)
2. Create a RAID floppy disk using the MAKEDISK tool usually found in the driver on the M/B CD, or downloaded from the Internet (if you don't have a floppy drive, there is a way to slipstream your drivers into the OS with NLITEOS: 3. If you've made the floppy, using a wired PS/2 keyboard, start tapping the F6 button once Windows starts to load;
4. During Installation Windows will ask for the drivers, follow the directions and install the drivers

Everything should work fine now.
