SMS in a complete virtual environment....what a concept.
Does anyone know of any problems that arrise whilst trying to run SMS 2003 in a completely virtual environment.
I have a virtual machine with a single server, hosting all server tools (SMS, SQL, AD, DHCP etc) and some different virtual machines running as clients. These are all running on the same host
All the VMs are running in bridged network mode, which means it essentially has a full network capability, inside and outside of the virtual machine.
I also have some normal PCs, running as clients. All is well with everything but the VM Clients.
The Server is being "assigned and client installed", and is fully queryable. As is the normal PC clients. However, the VM clients are being detected, but not even being shown as assigned.
When running the basic system resources on the VM machines, it is saying that it has been detected by network and AD discovery, and shows the site from which they are discovered. This is a single subnet network (ok, single subnet is a single whole network..anyway) The addresses of all the machines are allocated by DHCP, and are sequential from 99.3, 4, 5, 6, 7 etc. So there is no actual reason that the VM clients shouldn't be noted as assigned.
Anyone have any ideas?
