Problems with sending mail in Outlook 2000

I have had this problem once before and then it cleared up, but I don't know why. Now I have it again. It started today. I compose messages then hit send. It shows the messages are being sent and displays the proper number of messages that are being sent. The messages were actually sent as people replied to them, but they still show ready for que in my outbox. Any ideas?
