Not sure what happened exactly. Mouse started acting funny so I rebooted and then the keyboard and mouse both did not work. Tried another mouse - same thing. Tried keyboard by itself and it worked fine. Before you say "Sounds like the mouse port is fried", I decided to boot from my windows CD and the re-install. During the installation, both the mouse and the keyboard worked, but as soon as it started Windows for the first time, they both crapped out again. Possibly a virus? A registry issue?
My OS is Windows98
Any help would be appreciated.

Is it an Inteli Mouse by any chance?, if you have some drivers installed for the mouse or keyboard then a service called MSI8042 can cause a conflict but im not sure it does it for Win 98

Try to get to control panel with your keyboard by useing
tab and arrow keys then go to system and then device mgr,
tab down to your mouse and see what it says the problem is.
From there you should be able to take what ever action to fix the problem. good luck

You may have a registry error which causes the mouse to jump around like that. Go to microsofts site and do a search. It will have instructions on how to alter you registry so that your mouse and keyboard work properly

Try booting in safe mode and see if they work together. If so, go to device manager while still in safe mode and remove
all instances of the mouse.
