Hi all,

I have used Corel Draw for many many years. I prefer it's shape/node editing over compeating products. However when I upgraded to X3 they changed the way individual nodes are displayed. I hate the new way nodes have "extenders" or "handles" if they are too close to other nodes. If anyone knows how to turn this off PLEASE I beg you to share that information.

I am not sure I understand what you mean. With my version of X3, the only time the nodes have handles is when they are converted to curves (or created as a curve). Be sure that your default setting is not somehow set to "cusp". Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are saying by handles.

Hi again,

The issue that I am refering to is considered a "feature" by corel. First, lets consider that I am working with a shape that is converted to curves. Each node has "Bezier handles" based on which kind of node it is: cusp, smooth...
This is normal and not the problem I am refering to.
What I dislike is the tiny extension line that sticks out from nodes if Corel thinks that a node is too close to another node. This is based on how close you are zoomed in. So, the tiny extension lines may not be displayed if you are zoomed way in. Corel does this because they think that it makes it easier to select nodes that are close to eachother. In few cases it does, but if you marquee select nodes it can be a real pain since sometimes the tiny node extention falls within the marquee. The other reason I don't like it is it makes it harder to see the smoothness or quality of your shape since it has all these tiny lines ziging all over the place. (again I am not refering to the Bezier handles). I hope that this makes it clearer. I just want to know if it is a prefrence that can be shut off.

Thanks in advance,
Mitsu

After experimenting a bit, I see what you mean. I usually do not zoom that far out (or do not have enough close nodes) to make use of that feature. Also, I tend to zoom way in when editing nodes. I looked around a bit, but I cant find anyway to turn it off. The only thing I found of any interest was Node Tracking, but that didn't seem to make any difference to the handeles whether it was applied or not. It is looking like one of those intrinsic features. Initially it seems like a useful tool to me, but I can see how it would be annoying on very detailed items.
