We have 9 Exchange Server 5.5 sites in our organization. Our problem is that certain types of e-mail seems to end up on the wrong server.
Our arrangement consists of one server at the parent company headquarters and one server at 8 subsidiary companies. I am the administrator at one of the subsidiary sites.
I will call the server at the "parent" company ABC and the server at my location XYZ.
The symptoms we are have are as follows:
Whenever we open administrative messages at the XYZ site (Inbound Mail Failure, Mailbox Over Limit, Etc.) Outlook tells us that it is retrieving data from Exchange Server ABC. (This is on Outlook 2002.) These messages open very slowly as that server is accessed over a WAN link.
This same problem occurs with some other e-mail messages. Notably, those we have received from AOL users.
The server at the XYZ site recieves all e-mail originating from the internet directly. There is no reason (we can see) for the ABC server to be getting involved in this traffic.
The sites are connected using the X.400 connector.
I realize that there are lots of configuration details that I'm not describing here. However, I do think that our setup is fairly basic.
I would appreciate any thoughts that anyone may have on this issue. Thanks!
