Problems with margins when printing PDF

I have a multi-page A4 size PageMaker document with 10mm margins all round that prints perfectly to a non-postscript HP LaserJet 5 printer. I create the PDF (various methods and settings tried*) that appears with correct sized margins when viewed in Acrobat Reader, but the page, when printed to the LaserJet offsets the page down and to the right so that the RHS and the bottom of the page is cut off.

When I check the Preview box in Reader, it says the page size is 216mm wide and 279.4mm high (an A4 page is 210mm wide and 297mm high). I have tried checking and unchecking every combination of the printing options to get the page to print properly, but no luck. This PDF will be sent to a number of users who all have different printers and I want to make sure that the page prints correctly - but cannot even get it to print correctly to my own!!

* I have tried using Distiller as my target 'compose to printer' as well as the LaserJet in the document setup of PM.

* I have tried printing direct to Distiller as my target printer when creating the PDF as well as a virtual postscript printer.

* I have tried printing first to file, then distilling as well as direct printing to PDF. No luck with any of these.

Any suggestions?

I saw that page size once. Can't remember how I got rid of it but I haven't printed from my pdf's yet. I ferreted around in (PC) Settings>printers>PDF writer > preferences (and distiller) and forced the defaults to A4. Likewise the originating Apps.

I have noticed that the pdf itself can be cropped depending on whether I write to pdf printer driver or export (Pagemaker). AND it doesn't seem to matter what the Pagemaker page was optimised for.

I had a lot of problems with Photoshop and margins and image position but once I found and offset that suited we came to a compromise (it was a compromise). I think Adobe and printers are a problem generally.
