Problems with linked slices

I have build several pages in Illustrator and I am now slicing them for the web. But when I view the html that I generate in a browser it looks nothing like my page. There are gaps everywhere that mess up the alignment. I know it has something to do with joined links (those little 8's next the the slice number). It seem to dublicate my text in multiple places in my page. Also, I am saving my text as HTML Text, and the font face is not saved. I have to add that manually to the html code. How do I fix all of this? If I make everything a graphic it is easier. But that is way too inefficient for the web.
