Problems with Intuity LX on a Merlin Legend

I have an Intuity LX on a Merlin Legend system that will not take messages unless you press the # key after recording. If you press the # key it will save the message and light the MW light and works fine. If you don't press the # key and just hang up, it will delete the message like it was never left. I'm stumped... Any ideas?

is it setup for intergrated VM? Is it an LX or an Audix?
