ive got some problems with my windows 2000 server. the machine has 2 nics. 1 is connected to my lan and one is connected to my dsl modem. the server has the winpoet pppoe software running on it for the dsl internet connection. the machine is running dhcp and wins servers and ics to all the other computers on the lan. i have heard that you cant run dhcp and ics together but it seems to work. the clients pull ips and resolve names fine.
the ics works pretty good except some websites (such as just dont work to any of the clients. the sites work fine from the server and the clients can ping them but they just dont load. also i have outlook running on one of the clients. when i try to send mail it just says connecting to server and doesnt do anything. when i try to recieve mail it connects to the servers and says recieving 1 out of whatever messages and then nothing happens till it times out. i tried increasing the timeout period but nothing happens. also i tried using outlook express ad reinstalling outlook to see if it was a software problem. like before the client is able to ping the mail servers. does having the dhcp server have anything to do with this? is there something wrong with my routing settings or something?
also, the machine is running a vpn server. it seems to work. clients can connect using tcp/ip or ipx. they authenticate and login and all that. the workstations can ping and be pinged by the vpn clients. microsoft file sharing works. but when we try to play some multiplayer games using either protocol (with one of us on a lan workstation and one connecting by vpn) the games dont see each other even though the server shows both machines being on the same subnet or network number. again is something up with the ras or routing configurations?
i would really appreciate any help anyone could give me. thanks.
