Hi,

I'm trying to generate an index in InDesign.

It won't do it -- the source file is an RTF, and ID hangs on "reference number 913".

ID doesn't even display an error message -- it just hangs.

Any ideas.

Many thanks
Sam

Problem solved (sort of).

A colleague of mine narrowed down the problem to a corrupt index entry. He did this by deleting parts of the RTF document and re-placing it in ID to see if the index could be generated, which it eventually did; so he was therefore able to identify exactly where the corruption was in the RTF file.

But does anyone know what kind of problems would cause this type of corruption in Word, that would stop the index from generating?

I’ve had problems with generating the index in the past – is it the index entries from Word that cause the problem do you think?

Thanks
Sam
