Problems with empty property window

I wonder if someone can help me to solve a problem. I'm using Crystal Report 8.0 and VB 6.0. When I have added the Crystal Report to VB and am working on the report sometimes when I need to change a property for a object and go to the property window it's either blank or there is only ICRDesigner I can make a change in. Why is it like this and I can do something to prevent this from happening?
