Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had this problem, or could help me, I have just installed virus scan 4.5, and service pack 1. Now when I boot my Win 98 machine, it gets to the windows splash screen, and then starts making a beeping noise. The only way that I can get it to boot is in safe mode, or selective startup where I don't allow anything that has to do with the virus scan to be started up. I already tried uninstalling, and reinstalling, with no avail. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.
thanks

well where I would start is uninstall that, and install VIRUSSCAN v4.5.1 and SP1. then update the engine and dats.
Lotsobugs have been fixed since the version your installing.

if all else fails load the latest and greatest..

Ok, I uninstalled, rebooted, and the same beeping noise during boot. Reinstalled 4.5.1, no effect, any other suggestions before i fnr?

FNR? what is FNR? well if you uninstalled and still have problems then it isnt virusscan... check your autoexec.bat and config.sys as there is probably a line in one that is causing problems. you most likely dont need ANY lines in either one, so cleaning out both probably wont hurt a thing...

also if you know how to do a step by step confirmation I would try that. (HIT F8 at STARTING WIN98 and say yes on each line untill it locks the line it locks on is the one causing your problem, remove it from autoexec.bat or config.sys)...

Hope this helps

That is the only way that I can get the computer to boot, is either in safe mode, or in the step by step conformation, and say no to the virus scan stuff. A fnr is format and recover. I will probably have to go throught the auto exec files like you say, but it is a pain. This beeping is different than any I've heard on startup, it sounds like I;m playing a game!

uh I would delete the autoexec.bat and config.sys if you dont want to delete them, rename them, or move them out of the root. Ill bet they are NOT needed for your pc as 99 persect of systems since win95 dont need em... try this and see if you notice any problems without them. if you have problems edit them and put em back otherwise your cool...

The computer boots now, and expectedly, the virus scan doesn't work, but this is good, thanks for your help
