I prepared a layout for a website in photoshop, RGB, 1024x768 etc. Problem is : I forgot to account for the space that the windows bar and IE take off the top and bottom. Any guidelines on what i should take into account when rescaling the image ?

The sizes that I usualy use for an 800x600 screen is 760x420

So that would be 984x588 for your site.

Give this a try. You might need to tweak it a little.

The easiest way I have found for checking what size to make things it to set your screen rez to your final output.

Remove any extra bars ther you have on your browser. Make it full screen and take a snapshot (print screen).

You can then paste that image directly into photoshop. Photoshop will automaticaly resize a new document to what you have in your clipboard.

The you can either measure it, crop down to inside the browser window or build your site up in the space. (looks good for screenshots.)

It is also good practice to think about the extra bars (somethink I always forget) people usualy have. Think about one extra at the top (google or yahoo bar) and one at the side (usualy favorites).

The same process applies.

hope this helps.

Yes it did, I used your printscreen idea and it worked good enough for what I needed :)

Thanx :D
