Problems with a vital document sent to me, I am in a panic!!!!!

I have received a corrected version of an essay. When it came back to me, there were no words, just symbols. Is there anyway to fix this???????? I am desparate, for my dealine is in a few hours. I am using outlook express 6 in XP. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!! I need to know a way, if there is one, that I can change this essay back to words.

What font is it in? Have you tried changing it to see if this works?

Also, where did it come from (source program, system and network). If it came over the internet, then MIME or UUCP settings may be incorrect and causing this "corruption".

My first question would be is the file sent to you actually a word document or did someone just give the file a .doc extension and use some other word editor to actually edit the file? You may want to check with whomever provided you the file.

It is a word file, coming from someone's hotmail account. I have tried to change the fonts, but it only changes the the types of symbols.

Ah, its a Hotmail account in which case, as far as I know you cannot set MIME and UUCP settings.

Get the person to send it to you at an Internet account. Alternatively, get them to send pure text, rather than a word processed document.

Final option, get them to send it to me: hasitbakhda@yahoo.co.uk and I'll make sure you get it as it should have appeared. You could also send me the "corrupted" file and I'll see if I can do anything with it.

adammd8888. I'm really sorry, but the file you sent is truly corrupted. I was able to retrieve only very few words, but not the entire document.

Have the person copy the text and paste into the "Memo" portion of the e-mail, you can then put it in Word yourself (It will take someformating on your part...but deperatemeasures and all)

Adam, before you give up:

Open the email you got. Detach the file. Open the file from Word, BUT! When you hit File-Open, please make sure that you don't have "recover text from any file" in the files of type box.

If that doesn't help, try opening the file from WordPad: Start-->Program-->Accessories-->Wordpad.

Dreamboat, I was hoping you would see this thread earlier - could have done with your pearls. In any case, I tried all of the above and then some, but its comes out as garbage. The file is a no longer!
