Hello
I having some problems when i change tapes. I have arcserve version 9 and a hp msl5030 tape device. When i change a tape in the tapedevice arcserve doesn't find the new tape. I must restart the tape engine to get arcserve to discover the new tape. Any solutions what this can be???

Best Regards Peter

Peter,

the MSL5030 is a library, right ?? Do you dismount the magazines before changing tapes ?? Do you insert tapes through the mail slot or do you just open the magazine doors and change the tapes.

regards

Hi
The MSL5030 i libary. I do not dismount the magazines. I open the magazine doors and change the tapes. At the moment it's only one tape. It's in a testing phase. But i must change the tape/tapes everyday becasuse we store them at a antother location.
Do I have to dismount and mount the tape everyday. Or is there a option to make arcserve discover when you cange the tape.
Best Regards Peter

In this case it is necessary to let the ARCserve Tape Engine know that you have changed the inventory in the library. This can be done in the ARCserve Device Manager window using either the Mount/DisMount or Inventory command. So each time you swap out a tape this must be done.

You can also use the 'import/export' functionality to get out a tape without reinventory of the magazine. Export a tape and open the left magazine door through the panel on the library. The first slot of the left magazine in the MSL can be opened without taking the comlete magazine out.
