Hi There

I had apache all set up (as a local development serveR) on my Mandrake box. It was working fine. Last week something went screwy with my cable modem and I ended up having to scrap DHCP and assign static IPs to all the computers in my LAN. I can't access localhost anymore. When I do a apachectl - status, I get a message saying that httpd isn't running. When I do an apachectl -restart, I get no error messages, but a -status check again gives me an "httpd is *not* running" error.

If I ping localhost it correctly pings my internal IP, and connects fine. Why can't I connect with a web browser. I'm fairly new to Apache, so I apologize if I'm not making any sense.

Thanks

Ben

This could be many things... As for Apache, check the error log, usualy /var/log/httpd/error_log, that will tell you why it did not start. For easier configuration of many things, try Webmin, , it is awsome.

also, try apachectl configtest to see if the config is ok... if you need more help, just reply..

If you just did a revamping of your IP addressing, chances are you broke the previous ListenAddress or ServerName directives. A good sign of that is to run the Apache binary directly and look for a "could not bind to address" or similar error. The error message is also probably in the logfile btaber mentioned above. --

Thanks guys - these all helped. I had set my listen just to 80, so it listened. The ServerName wsa set to my new internal IP, but I just commented it out and it now seems to automatically figure it out. I've now somehow dropped my internet connection in all this messing around, so I've now got to work on that, but for now the local server is working...

Thanks

Ben
