Problems saving Excel and opening Access files

Ever since we upgraded to v7 of eTrust I cannot open Access databases at all without disabling the realtime monitor. I have created several large (>90Mb) databases with loads of forms and whatnot that simply refuse to open. They timeout after about 5 minutes of inactivity. I should also note that these databases are on Win2K servers with the realtime monitor set to both directions on both server and workstation.
Excel has slightly different but related issues; I get the error message 'Your changes could not be saved to 'file.xls', but were saved to a temporary document named '51058000'. Close the existing document, then open the temporary document and save it under a new name.' The temp document is in the same directory as the original (on the sever). Disabling realtime also clears up this problem.

That's because everytime you touch these files etrust will scan them thus slowing down the opening time until they time out. You could change the realtime to incoming only or exlude these files in etrust.

v7 Doesn't have the option for incoming only like v6 did. And excluding those files seems to contradict the whole purpose of an antivirus in the first place. I've never been happy with eTrust/InocuLAN/Cheyenne/whatever they want to be called this week, but I don't make the calls on purchasing. Wish I did.

Agree, we are currently upgrading from InoculateIT 4.53 to eTrust 7 and NAVCE 7.5 to SAVCE 8.1. I would prefer straight SAV

We had the same problem with Excel and InoculateIT 4.53.
Changing the Real Time monitor from "Monitor Both Directions" to "Monitor Incoming Files" seemed to clear up the problem.

I surmise that the server and workstation were "fighting" over the file, one scaning as the file was sent and the other simultaneously scanning as it was received.

InoculateIT v7.0 doesn't have the option for scanning incoming files because if you don't have "protect network drives" enabled you're left with a security hole.

Try monitoring outgoing files only and see if that works.

Cheers.
