Problems saving as a jpeg

When saving pix as jpegs, I find that I cannot import them into QuarkXPress; they just show as white space.
Having checked all the menu boxes, I have noticed that in the Quark 'Get Picture' menu box, the files that DO NOT import have a Format of: 'PICT', and the Dimensions and Colour Depth is: 'Unkown'.
Those that DO import, have a Format of 'RGB JPEG'; the Dimensions are shown and the Colour Depth is: 'True Colour'.
I DO NOT have this problem when saving as other file formats, eg. tiff, bmp, eps, etc.
Can anyone help please?

Don't know much about the file formats possible in Quark as I use Pagemaker, and the only two trouble-free recommended file formats are TIF (for raster images) and EPS (for vector images). JPGs are not a good format to use if this Quark file is to be commercially printed - it is really a web format, not a print format. If you must use JPGs, make sure that they are not saved as 'progressive'.

Thanks for that Eggles. I only use Jpegs for digital printing out to Inkjets and colour photocopiers.
I normally use EPS for commercial work. I'll just save these pix as Tiff's and get the best of both worlds!

Does Quark have a secondary Xtension for JPG? I vaguely recall a GIF or JPG XTension that was offered as a download from quark.com outside of the base XTs that shipped with Quark 3 and/or 4.

When saving to TIFF, consider the lossless compression of LZW. If it works on your RIP, make a practice of using LZW. It can really smack the TIFFs into a tidy little package, approaching the small size of JPG.
