I have a Toshiba satellite laptop that's running WinXP Pro with all service packs. I installed Norton 2006 anti-virus but now I'm having the following problems.
1. LiveUpdate does not run automatically. I have to manually run this and it fails everytime.
2. I am unable to open Norton antivirus. The icon is ther eint he system tray b ut wh en I click on it it just hangs.
I am unable to run any online scans from either Norton or computer Associates. Whenever I try to do this I connect to the sites but the pages do not load. It says its doint that but all you see is the page headers and there is no other activity.

Is there any type of virus that disables the running of anti virus software? And if there is what and where can I get the fix for this.

How to handle this????

See what you can dig up at Symantec.

Try cleaning out your Temporary Internet Files folder and other Temp files by running the Disk Cleanup tool. See if you can get the online scanners to work after that.

If not you could try another anti virus scanner after disabling Norton, and try the new one from Safe Mode to see if it picks up anything.

Try something like AVG free or Avast free for this purpose.

Try the free version of "Ewido"

Windows Defender

Have you registered and activated it. NAV2006 disables after 15 days without activation
