I have printed out a sheet of paper measuring 82cm x 29.7cm, in black and white on low quality paper as a test to see what my image looks like.......

this is fine.....

but when I go to print exactly the same image but in colour and on glossy paper than Illustrator says 'can't print artwork' and it ends up printing only 3/4 of my image.

I know that this can't be a printer issue since it's fine with b/w on rubbish paper. Why is there a problem with high quality glossy paper and colour ink????

Has anyone else had similar problems??

Please help!!

Can you print the same size/quality from other applications? It could be a printer issue, such as memory problems, as the high quality colour image is probably a far bigger file as far as the printer is concerned.

The illustrator file is only 65MB. It prints fine at 320dpi in B/W and colour, but when I up the dpi to 1441dpi then parts of the 'artwork' doesn't print. So about 3/4 of my page prints. The page is about 82cm long.

So I think it's a problem with Illustrator and it's incompatibilty with printers that don't have postscript software.

I believe that postscript software allows more complex and larger Vector based Illustrator files to print.

I have no problems printing the same image in Photoshop, even when this image is 500MB.

If anyone has any ideas, even if it's to disprove what I've said, then I'm all ears.

Cheers!!

Here are a few things you can try.

Export a press quality pdf - to make sure it's not a problem with the file. See if the pdf prints ok.

Make sure you're using rgb, not cmyk, because a non postscript printer does not recognize cmyk.

Under Document Setup try selecting Medium for transparency flattening. Under Edit/Color Settings try Color management off.

When I have to print stuff from any design app to a standard inkjet, I always pdf the thing. I get better results.

Hi

I've now decided to save as a pdf. But even when I print at a high quality setting, from acrobat 1/4 of the image on the page is missing.

In the print preview I can see the entire 84cm page, but only 3/4 of the image is on it, the rest is blank.

This only happens when I print to a higher quality than 320dpi.

At 320dpi it prints.

I then tried exporting it as a TIFF and printing it at high quality in photoshop and it does print the whole thing. But I don't want to print it from Photoshop because the crisp quality of the lines go.

So it's just Acrobat (as a pdf) and Illustrator (as a eps or ai) that it doesn't print at high quality.

Any ideas what could be the problem??
