Yes I know Photoshop 4 is old but it what I have and I can not afford to upgrade to a newer version. So this what I got and would like to use if I can.

This is a problem that other people have had when they tried using PS 4 with WinXp.

I installed PS 4 but when I attemp to run it it give a type of error.
Unable to load PSUT9532.dll Photoshop will not be able to support 16 bit plug-ins

I have come across only 2 fixes for this problem.
One suggested down loading a different dll

The second one suggested uninstall PS4 and reinstall it into the C:\Programs\Adobe\Photoshop folder instead of the default location of C:\Adobe\Photoshop

I have tried both of these suggestion and neither of them works.
I tried the new dll but still got the same error
I tried the new location but the PS4 will load without the error but hanges once I try and do anything.

So does anyone know of a solution without having to upgrade?

Google found this link that seems to have a few things to try. I hope this isn't where you got your previous suggestions.

"Modemmogul's" reply dated 12/06/04 is the one that works. Since I installed this patch, PS 4.0 (now PS 4.01) works flawlessly on XP -- no more problems at all! Download and install it, highly recommended.

Thanks for the reply mscallisto but I already tried that one. It was the first one with the dll.

Here is quota from it.
This plug-in can be installed with Photoshop 4.0.1 on any Windows-based system.
If your system does not have a processor with Intel's MMX technology,
then the MMXCore plug-in will have no effect on Photoshop's performance.
So it had no effect on my installation.
But thanks for trying

Just a thought...have you done all your Windows XP upgrades ?

Plus one more "shot in the dark"...
Start > accessories > progran compatibility wizard

helps config older programs to run on XP
