During our time using Microsoft Exchange 5 client it was possible to have a user log in to the NT mail server while another user could log in to the same server to retrieve their e-mail as a secondary mailbox. This was done simply going to the Advanced tab of the Exchange Server option under the chosen profile and turning off the Security option over the network. Simply, this allows the chosen user to log in to the server seperately.

In Outlook 98 the option still exists except that the option has changed to a drop down box. Here you turn off NT password authentication for the desired profile and things should work fine. However, this has not been the case. For example, User A logs into their machine. Double clicking on the Outlook icon brings up the prompt to choose the user to log in to Outlook. When you choose User B, not logged in, they are asked to put in their User Name, Domain, and password. Doing this does not work. Either Outlook will return a message saying that you can't open the designated mailbox OR it will go in fine but you can not expand the Mailbox folder. If attempted it returns the message "Unable to open the designated folder..."
I have deleted all PWL and ACL files in the Windows directory and have attempted to log in again. This has worked to no avail. It is important to understand that the process works fine on my personal machine. That is, a colleague and I can do the above with Outlook and it will work fine without fail. SO, I know that it works.
We have had this problem on many machines that have Outlook 98 and no machines have done it that have Exchange Client.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had this problems whan the windows logged in user and the outlook user where not the same.
windows 98 sends his password with encryption try to disable
this option by editing the regestry

Not sure if this is what you mean but...

In Control Panels, Mail and Fax, Select Exchange Server props. You have the main name. Also on the next tab you get OPEN ADDITIONAL MAILBOXES. Put in the relevant names. set the properties of these mailboxes to be able to be opened by the main name.
If you see what I mean :)
Actually, I think he means that you have to go into Win98 (if that is what Outlook 98 is being used on) and edit the registry there to send passwords in clear text OR encrypted. For some reason, I have found that Win98 will try to encrypt and the ENC Scheme is different somehow from the WinNT scheme. To give an example, I believe that the NETWORKING log in is sent to the server in CLEAR TEXT. I could be wrong on that. Check out the Registry on the client machine though. If I get the actual key name I will post it
