I am trying to make a bootable cdrom with both the boot/root images on it. I found a partial answer as to how to do it but I am getting an error 1 message when I am trying to create the images.

On AP Lawrence's faq pages " emergency boot cdrom" (which are great btw) he had described a process of making a bootable cdrom for an earlier version of SCO. I am using SCO Unix 5.0.7

I modified the /usr/lib/mkdev/fd script exactly as was shown in the faq.

I got to this part of the instructions and I have no clue as to what to do.

> edit /etc/rc2.d/8/userdef to setup the ram disk as ram01 > then reboot the system.

the /etc/rc2.d/8/userdef file has no entries in it go off of to modify. I also checked a SCO Unix 5.0.0 box and there was no entries in there as well.

Any help anyone could provide would be great.
TIA

Just create a new file, chmod to execute, and it should work. The startup/exit scripts are prefixed with P/S, so a find /etc -name "P*" -print; will find them, so you can also make a copy of one and tailor it to your needs.

I am not sure exactly as to how to setup the ramdisk to ram01 in the /etc/rc2.d/8/userdef file. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

TIA

man ramdisk

I solved the problem by first following the man page for the ram disk, it took a couple of tries but I got it working.

Thanks for the help everyone.
