New Netware 6 sb server.
In the moring when user login in they connect to the server, but are not able to complete drive mappings.

I run DSREPAIR, which comes up with no errors, then when they retry no problem logging in.

Put on Service pack 2 and still the same issues.

Whats the error message if any?
What networking protocol are you using?

We had the same problem. Couldn't map - got the 8901 errors.We ended up deleting the old licenses, reinstalled them and assigned each of them to our main server. That seemed to do the trick.

Well - I spoke too soon. Now the license certificates show that we have 92 licenses in use, while the server minotor shows 56. When the license certs. hit 100 then we get the login errors - drive mapping error 8901 - and no one else can log in. So, when we deleted and reinstalled the license certificates, of course it reset - but this doesn't seem like a good way to continue to handle this.
Anyone else have a fix?

If you have users that share PC's This is functioning as it should. If you have 56 PC's and only 56 people in your company, then you may have a problem.

Novell licensing in 6 is very different than in NetWare 5. NetWare 3,4,&5 were server based licneses, IE, you had to have conection license for every user on every server they would use. Now with 6 you only need user licenses for the tree, and these users will be able to access all servers with out any server based licenses. When a user logs in, he takes a license and does not give it back until 90 days with out any activity on he user account, then the license is freed up for another to use. There is nothing that will allow you release the license manually (that I have found, but I also haven't looked), the system just does it after 90days.

I don't recall being able to view license usage on the server console, you must be looking at connections in MONITOR. COmparing what is in MONITOR and CONSOLE ONE will only confuse you. They don't compare properly anymore with out the server based user license.

You may hav users that are logging in multipule times and sucking up all you licenses. You can set limits and reservations on licenses for the users; you may want to look into that Brent Schmidt CNE,Network + [atom]

Yes, I was looking at MONITOR. However, after installing a patch for ConsoleOne and deleting and recreating both the server license and the user license certificates again, we are now showing normal usage of 54 connections after a 24 hour period(we have 100 user license with about 65 users on 35 PC's plus 12 printers). A quick scan of the certificates now shows only one use per user (unless they are logged in twice). There are maybe four or five that have phantom double connections.

FYI: I have been able to manually delete certificate connections with NWADIN32. Just point at the user name in the certificate list and delete. That's what I was doing to squeak us by until we fixed it (we are 24/7, so I was constantly deleting users from other shifts). Only time will tell if this is really fixed.

Check out this TID from Novell #10073805 It says there is a problem with the Support Pack 2 version of NLSLSP.NLM.

To fix the following problems:
* New user accounts can't login
* Users can't map drives
* Users consume 2 licenses when logging in
* Users consume multiple licenses
* Users taking 2 licenses per connection
* Users taking up more than one licensed connection
* Every user connection takes two licenses
* IManager shows correct amount of licenses installed
* IManager displays double the amount of licenses actually in use
* Users cannot log in because license count has been exceeded
* High utilization on the server

You have to Backrev NLSLSP.NLM to the previous version. The previous version is found on the NetWare 6 install CD (it was not updated in Support Pack 1). Copy NLSLSP.NLM from the CD path SYS\SYSTEM\NLSLSP.NLM to the server path SYS:SYSTEM\NLSLSP.NLM. Unload NLSLSP at the server console, and after about 10 seconds it will reload itself. Once it reloads, you should see most of the duplicate license assignments go away. Those that remain, clear them with NWADMN32, or iManage.

Hi.

I'm having the same problem. After reading this thread, I assume I should delete and then reinstall the licenses? Could one (or many) of you fine folks tell me if the following is correct or where to find out how to properly remove and reinstall the licenses?

I have the "SmartCert0.exe" and a 25 user NW6 licence pack saved onto a diskette.

I assume I have to copy this onto a workstation and this executable will "create" a floppy diskette with any/all licenses, etc?

I then take the diskette to the server in question and, using, NWCONFIG, install the licenses?

If so, how do I first remove the licenses and is there anything else I should know / do?

TIA for any and all help!

Mark
