Hello,

I have a problem using sendmail on AIX 4.3.3.

Whenever I try to start the service it dies.
I have tried starting the service using the srcmst command and then using refresh. When I do a ps -ef the service isn't running When I look at the syslog.conf file in /etc there is no mention of where the error log is being shunted to about this DAEMON.

Any ideas why this happening and where I can find the error log to tell me why ?

Thanks,

Jon.

Jon,

Have you looked in /var/adm/syslog/syslog? There is also (I think) a mail log in that directory.

Has sendmail ever been used? Is it that a configuration change has stopped this working? (This is where I would start looking)

hi jon

u can check if u have the following entry in "/etc/syslog.conf" file

mail.debug /var/adm/syslog

if u got this entry , then the debugging info should be routed to that file in /var/adm.

Thanks for the advice chaps.

I have now managed to get sendmail working now.

The only problem I have now is that I can send Messages, but cannot receive them.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers in advance

Jon.
